Your privacy is very important to us. At NYC Health + Hospitals YouthHealth locations, you can get confidential sexual and reproductive health services. According to New York State law, our doctors and other staff cannot tell anyone, not even parents, that you received sexual and reproductive health services unless you give your permission to do so.

Confidential services include:

  • Pregnancy testing and counseling about your options if you are pregnant
  • Birth control and counseling about birth control
  • Emergency contraception
  • Prenatal care
  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • HIV testing
  • Mental health counseling
  • Post sexual assault care

If you're an adolescent minor under the age of 18 and are seeing a doctor for primary care, such as your regular check-ups or immunizations, this may be shared with your parent or guardian. Also, if you tell a doctor that you may hurt yourself or other people, the doctor may report this to others in order to keep you safe.

NYC Health + Hospitals YouthHealth staff members are trained to provide respectful and sensitive care to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. For more information about your rights to privacy and confidential care, download this brochure from the New York Civil Liberties Union [in PDF].
