At NYC Health + Hospitals, we play an active role in preventing violence in our communities and empowering youth to lead safer, healthier lives. Our hospital-based violence interruption and prevention programs are here to support young people impacted by violence and help victims and communities heal.
Interruption
Our teams of physicians, nurses, social workers, and violence interruption responders meet with victims of community violence to offer comprehensive support when they enter our care. Early interruption is critical to helping mediate conflicts to prevent retaliation and break cycles of violence.
Prevention
Our community-based partners provide young people positive alternatives that proactively prevent violence. We offer after school programming, peer mentoring, arts and boxing programs, and job training to help at-risk youth stay safe and thrive.
Community Engagement
We work with community and city leadership to engage young people and help those impacted by violence heal. We actively invite youth to participate in events, including vigils, marches, fundraisers, and sports tournaments, that promote peace, unity, and teamwork.
